This is your step-by-step guide to understanding what happens behind the scenes when you submit your manuscript to TBLNG Press.
TBLNG Press, our traditional publishing arm, takes care of the entire journey from manuscript to finished book. When we offer an author a traditional publishing contract, it means we cover the costs, handle the professional production process, and pay the author royalties.
In simple terms, you write the book and we invest in bringing it to life. That includes polishing the manuscript, creating a compelling cover, preparing the book for print, and managing all the behind-the-scenes details.
At TBLNG, we’re committed to publishing stories that reflect and celebrate the African experience—across any genre. We have an eye for underrepresented voices, bold narratives, and books with heart. Every manuscript is carefully reviewed to ensure it aligns with our publishing standards and values. We’re not limited by genre; we’re driven by originality and relevance.
Who Can Submit?
We welcome submissions from writers of African descent, regardless of country of residence. We accept books from any genre, and submissions should be written in English. Manuscripts of all lengths are welcome, but we recommend (70,000 to 100,000 words) for best consideration. Whether you’re unpublished or previously published, we’re excited to hear from you.
We know that sharing your story can be daunting and you may never feel fully “ready.” But if you believe in your story and think it fits what we’re looking for, don’t wait. Submit it. We’re more interested in your voice and story than in perfection.
Your manuscript should be submitted in a specific format, and there are a few other requirements we expect from authors at the submission stage. Please read the full details on our submissions page.
Once you’ve reviewed the guidelines, go ahead and submit your work.
What Happens Next?
Our review process typically takes 10–12 weeks. Because of the volume of submissions we receive, only accepted submissions will receive a follow-up email. This next email will include detailed next steps.
If your manuscript is accepted and all details finalized, you’ll be paired with one of our talented editors for the first round of developmental editing. This stage varies in length depending on how quickly you respond to editorial feedback. During this process, we’ll also finalize a working title so we can begin cover design.
Once editing is complete, your manuscript will be proofread and typeset. Multiple proofreading rounds may take place to ensure quality. After typesetting and layout, the manuscript is proofed again. Once finalized, your book goes to print.
Then comes the exciting part: marketing and distribution. Our in-house team will drive the promotional campaign—with your support as the author—to help get your book into the hands of readers.
Every step of the way, a dedicated team member will guide you through the process to ensure your publishing experience is smooth and collaborative.
What Sets Us Apart?
At TBLNG, we don’t just publish and disappear, we’re invested in long-term author growth. From first edit to final print, we’re known for our close author relationships, editorial excellence, and respect for the creative process. We’re also proud to amplify stories that matter, particularly those that center African lives and voices.
